Diese Beiden kann man nicht trennen. Sie sind nicht nur bei den "Fliegenden Ärzten", sondern auch im wirklichen Leben ein Paar. Seit Ostermontag 1960 sind Val und Maurie verheiratet. Diese Ehe konnte nur der Tod trennen.

Und das tat er.
Am 18. Dezember 1995 erlag Maurie Fields in Val´s Armen einem Herzinfarkt. Am 06. Mai 2017
folgte Val ihm nach kurzer Krankheit.

Val Jellay
Val wurde am 25. September 1927 als Valerie Jelley geboren. Mit 4 Jahren begann Val bereits mit Stepptanz-Unterricht, Ballet und Akrobatik an der Alice Uren’s School of Stage Dancing. Nach einigen Jahren bekam sie eine eigene Show. “Valerie & Kevin”, die Tip Top Trappers und sie wurde Mitglied der Truppe “The Melbourne Marvels”. Val wollte mehr. Nach Vorsprechen am “Tivoli” be- kam sie ihre Chance, denn Val liebte den direkten Kontakt zum LivePublikum. Sie bekam dazu Gesangsunterricht, wurde Choreographin. Nach dem Krieg tourte sie oft durch Neuseeland. Mit 20 bekam sie ein Engagement am “Tivoli Theatre” in Perth. Sie lernte dort Hal Lennon kennen, verliebte sich in ihn und heiratete ihn. Es folgten Auftritte in Sydney´s Nachtclubs. Mit 24 Jahren
ging Val nach London, wo sie zwei Jahre an Theatern tätig war. Eine IrlandTournee schloss sich an, danach tourte sie durch Nordafrika, Tripoli, Kairo und Europa. 1953 war sie in Deutschland. Die Scheidung von Hal war
vorprogrammiert. Val`s Theaterauftritte gingen weiter. Sie schaute sich rein zufällig den Vorspielpart des Duo “Skit & Skat” an. Das war die erste Begegnung zwischen ihr und Maurie, der einer der beiden Künstler war. So kam es, dass sie sich häufiger sahen. Bei einem Ball kamen sie sich verhalten freundschaftlich
näher, denn Maurie war sehr schüchtern!! Nachdem beider Scheidungen rechtskräftig waren, konnten die beiden an eine gemeinsame Zukunft denken.

Maurie Fields
Maurie wurde am 04. August 1926 geboren. Er war sehr sportlich und besonders lag ihm Dreisprung und Hochsprung. Früh wurde seine Liebe zum Showgeschäft  geweckt. Durch seine Musikbegabung flogen ihm Spielen und Singen fast in den Schoß. Ja, er war ein Naturtalent. Er besuchte auch noch eine Tanzschule. Nach
seinem Ausbildungsabschluss war Maurie als Komödiant, Entertainer, Sänger und Tänzer unterwegs, allein oder mit Partnern. Nachdem er Val kennen gelernt hatte, trat er mit ihr zusammen als Duo in Theatern und Shows auf. Sie wurden bekannt als der König und die Königin von Vaudeville. Maurie war überall beliebt, war
nicht nur als Schauspieler und Entertainer anerkannt, sondern produzierte selbst verschiedene Theaterstücke. In der Fernsehserie “Bellbird” spielte er über 6 Jahre den Quinney. Er war ständig in vielen Serien mit dabei, wie z. B. von
1965-1975 in “Homicide” als Bill Todd, von 1969 - 1975 war er in “Division 4” zu sehen, “Matlock Police” in den Jahren 1971-1975, 1975-1976 in “The last of the Australians”, “Tandarra” und in “The Sullivans” 1976, “Bluey” 1977,
1977-1978 in 14 “Bobby Dazzier”-Episoden, 1979 in 51 “Skyways2”-Episoden, 1981 in “Holiday Island”, “Prisoner” 1982-1985, “Kiss me Kate”, “Neighbours” 1995.

Maurie war nicht nur sehr gerne in Serien gesehen, er hatte viele Filmrollen in Australien und Amerika. Unter anderen: in “Country Town” 1971, “Alvin Purple rides again” 1974, als Company Director stand Maurie 1975 in
“The Great MacArthy” vor der Kamera. “Break of day” 1976 , “In search of Anna” 1978, in “Fighting Back” sah man ihn 1982 als Police Sergeant, in “Lonely hearts” 1982. 1985 als Mr. O`Brien in “Winners”, 1988 spielte er in
“Evil Angels” Barritt, Fred Livingston 1994 in “Country Life”.

Val & Maurie
1957 traten Val und Maurie bei Channel 7 in der Familienshow “Sunnyside up” gemeinsam als sie selbst auf. 1960 gaben sie sich das Ja-Wort und 1962 wurde Sohn Martin geboren. Mit ihm war ihr Glück vollkommen.
Mit Fernsehen, Film und Theater ging es weiter, aber beide achteten sehr darauf, dass sie nicht lange getrennt waren und sie sich immer um ihren Sohn kümmern konnten. Aus diesem Grund spielten Val und Maurie über 10 Jahre lang
zusammen in “Tikki & Johns Music Hall”. Dann kam die große Seriengemeinschaft für Val und Maurie. Von der ersten Drehminute an waren sie für die Serie “The Flying Doctors” engagiert. Zunächst drehte man eine MiniSerie, die derart erfolgreich war, dass die Serie über weitere acht Jahre gedrehtwurde und weltweit ein Renner war. In der Serie “Die fliegenden Ärzte” wurdenVal und Maurie bei uns als Nancy und Vic Buckley berühmt. Sie führten den Pub,
Nancy in der Küche und Vic am Tresen. Bei ihnen spielte sich das Coopers Crossinger Leben ab. Sie waren die Anlaufstelle für alle. Es wurde über fast alles geredet und fast alle Probleme gelöst. Aus privaten Gründen legten Val und Maurie eine Drehpause ein und kamen nach einer fünfmonatigen Pause mit großem Hallo in die Serie zu- rück. Als die Serie “The Flying Doctors” endete, war es Val, als ob sie ein Stück Familie verliere. Auch heute noch freut sie sich riesig über Fanpost.
Nach diesen erfolgreichen Serien-Drehjahren blieben Val und Maurie dem Publikum weiter treu.

Val übernahm in vielen Serien Gaststar-Rollen, um in Mauries Nähe zu sein, denn er musste nach zwei überstandenen Herzanfällen kürzer treten. Ihr Sohn Martin (Marty) trat in die Fußstapfen seiner Eltern, war er doch
“im” Showgeschäft groß geworden. Da lag es nahe, selbst diesen Beruf zu ergreifen. Er begann als Musiker, wurde ebenfalls Schauspieler, Sänger und Tänzer, stand zusammen mit seinen Eltern auf der Bühne. Der schlimmste Tag in
Val`s Leben kam im Dezember 1995. Nach Marty`s Geburtstagsfeier erlitt Maurie einen weiteren Herzanfall und er starb in den Armen seiner Val. Es war ein harter Schock für alle. Die ganze Familie und Freunde aus nah und fern waren er- schüttert. Unter großer Anteilnahme fand die Beerdigung statt. Beverly Dunn, Claire Bryant aus “Die fliegenden Ärzte”, war es, die einen sehr ergreifenden Nachruf auf Maurie hielt. Aber was bis dahin kaum jemand wusste, Maurie litt auch an Kehlkopfkrebs, den man bei einer Routineuntersuchung festgestellt hatte.
Nach einer langen Behandlung ging man davon aus, dass Maurie den Krebs besiegt hatte.

Und er stürzte sich wieder in die Arbeit, war mit Leidenschaft zurück in seinem Beruf. Mit Sohn Marty arbeitete er an dem Musical “Crazy for you” von Gershwin, das er neu bearbeitete. Hier sollten alle DREI, Val, Maurie und
Marty zusammen in Melbourne auf der Bühne stehen. Aber es kam leider nicht mehr da- zu, Maurie verstarb am 18. Dezember 1995.
Drei Monate nach Maurie’s Tod traf sich Renate mit Val Jellay in Melbourne, Albert Park und übergab ihr die Maurie gewidmete “erste” Heftausgabe unseres Fanclubs. Val hat natürlich sehr viel von Maurie erzählt und der immer noch
schweren Zeit. Es war ein sehr freundschaftliches Gespräch zwischen Val und Renate. Val berichtete auch davon, dass sie an ihrem zweiten Buch “Maurie Fields, Keep it funny” arbeite und es darin nur um Maurie geht. Ihr erstes Buch “Stagestruck” ist ihre Autobiographie. Beide Bücher waren in Australien auf den Bestsellerlisten. Ende 1998 hatte Renate dann ihr zweites Treffen mit Val Jellay (aber auch mit Terry Gill und Robert Grubb). Sie trafen sich bei Val zu Hause und Val konnte all die Fotos und Preise von Maurie zeigen. 1996 war ihm postum der
“TV-Week Logie Award” für sein Lebenswerk verliehen worden. Val erzählte auch von der Arbeit mit ihrem Sohn in dem Musical “Crazy for you”. Diese Arbeit hat ihr einerseits gut getan, andererseits aber auch alte Wunden
aufgerissen.
Aber Val Jellay ist nach wie vor vielbeschäftigt. In der Serie “Neighbours” spielte Val 1999, mit Altstar Bud Tingwell, die Rolle der Connie O`Rourke. Sie trat am 17. August 2000 in der Fernseh-Show “This is your life” auf. Es wurde über ihr Leben geplaudert, aus alten Zeiten waren Kollegen anwesend, die sie 55 Jahre nicht mehr gesehen hatte. Überraschungsgäste aus jüngster Zeit waren Liz Burch und Andrew McFarlane. 2004 wurde Val Großmutter von Enkelin Hayley Kate, die sie am 23. Mai endlich in ihre Arme schließen konnte. Im Jahr 2005 spielte
Val in der Serie “Blue Heelers” als Marjorie Price mit.
Der Kontakt zu unserem Fanclub bleibt, sehr zu unserer Freude, weiterbestehen.
Wann immer Renate in Australien, in Melbourne ist, ist sie ohne ein Treffen mit Val nicht in Melbourne gewesen. Zuletzt 2006, einem Jahr vor Val`s 80. Geburtstag.

“Sie ist immer noch eine bewundernswerte große Lady und ich werde weiter ein “großer” Fan von ihr bleiben.”
Val war 2010 in der Komödie “The Librarians” in der Folge `Pearl of wisdom´ und bereitete für 2011 ihr Abenteuer als Lady Calderwood in “Moonlite” vor.

This two can not be separated! They are not only a couple with " The Flying Doctors" they are it also in the actual life. Val and Maurie have been married  since Easter Monday 1960. This marriage only could the death separate. And       he did this. On December 18th, 1995 Maurie Fields died on a heart attack in the arms of Val. Sadly, on 6th of May 2017 Val followed him to heaven.

Val  Jellay

Val was born as Valerie Jelley on September 25th, 1927. With 4 years Val al- ready started, with tap-dance lessons and acrobatics at Alice Uren´s School of Stage Dancing. After some years she got a show of her own. A member of the  troop "The Melbourne Marvels" became "Valerie & Kevin", the Tip Top  Trappers. More wanted Val. After calling at the "Tivoli" she got her chance because Val loved the direct contact to the live audience. She got song lessons      to it, became a choreographer. After the war she often travelled to New Zealand. With 20 she got an engagement at the "Tivoli Theatre" in Perth. She got to know Hal Lennon there, fell in love with him and married him. Appearances followed   in nightclubs in Sydney. With 24 years Val went to London where she was active  at theatres for two years. An Ireland tour followed. She travelled through North Africa, Tripoli, Cairo and Europe. She was 1953 in Germany. The divorce of Hal was pre-programmed. Val's theatre appearances went on. She had a look by pure chance at the prelude part of the duo "Skit & Skat". This one was the first meeting of the both artists between her and Maurie. So it came that they more frequently saw themselves. At a ball they came behave friendly more nearer, because Maurie was very shyly!! After the divorces of both were final legal, the two could think   of a future together.

Maurie  Fields

Maurie was born on August 4th, 1926. It was very sporting and he high particu- larly liked jump and triple jump. His love of the show business was aroused    early. Games and singing flew for him almost into the lap by its music talent. Yes, he was a natural prodigy. He also attended a dancing school. After his end quali- fication Maurie as play-actor, entertainer, singer and dancer was away, alone or with partners. After he had met Val, he appeared as a duo in theatres and shows together with her. They became well-known as the king and the queen of Vaude- ville. Maurie was popular everywhere, was not only as an actor and entertainer respected but produced different plays himself. In the television series "Bellbird" he played the Quinney more than 6 years. He permanently was in many series,   how e.g. in 1965- 1975 in "Homicide" as Bill Todd, in 1969 - 1975 he was seen  in "Division 4", "Matlock Police" in the years 1971 - 1975, in 1975 - 1976 in  "The last of the Australians", in "Tandarra" and in "The Sullivans" 1976, "Bluey" 1977, 1977 - 1978 in 14 "Bobby Dazzier"-episodes, 1979 in 51 "Skyways"- episodes, 1981 in "Holiday Island", "Prisoner" 1982 - 1985, "Kiss me Kate" and "Neighbours" 1995. Maurie was not only very looked into series with pleasure,   he had many roles of film in Australia and America. Under others Maurie was in 1975 in "Country Town" 1971, "Alvin Purple rides again" 1974, as a company director in "The Great Mac- Arthy" Maurie stood in front of the camera. "Break   of day" 1976, "In Search of Anna" 1978 in "Fighting back" one considered him     as a policy sergeant in 1982,    in "Lonely hearts" in 1982 too. 1985 as a Mr. O'Brien in "Winners", he played in "Evil of Angel" Barritt in 1988, Fred Livingston 1994 in "Country Life".

Val & Maurie

Val and Maurie appeared as herself together at Channel 7 in the family show "Sunnyside up" in 1957.

In 1960 acted the yes word and son Martin was born  in 1962. With him their luck was perfect.

It went on with television, film and theatre but both took care very much that they were not separated for a long time and they could always take care of their  son. For this reason Val and Maurie played in "Tikki & Johns Music Hall" more than 10 years together. The large series community then came for Val and Maurie. From the first shooting minute both were engaged for the series "Flying Doctors". At first one produced a mini-series, this one was so successful that the series was produced more than another eight years and was worldwide a winner. Val and Maurie became in the series "Flying Doctors" famous with us as Nancy and Vic Buckley. They were the owner of the Majestic Hotel, Nancy in the hotel and kitchen and Vic at the bar. The Coopers Crossinger life happened at them. They were the contact point for everyone. It was about everything almost spoken and almost all problems solved. For private reasons Val and Maurie did a shooting break and came back with a great hello in the series after a five-month break.  When the series "Flying Doctors" ended, it was Val as if she loses a part of her family. She is enormously pleased about fan post also today certainly.

After these successful series shooting years Val and Maurie further remained faithful to the audience. Val took on only guest star roles in many series to be in Maurie´s proximity because he had to cut back on his after two heart attacks.   Their son Martin (Marty) stepped into the footprints of his parents, he was any- way got big "in this" show business. It seemed obvious to take up alone this profession too. He started as musician, became also actor, singer and dancer, stood together with his parents on the stage. The worst day in Val's lives came      in December 1995. After Marty's birthday party Maurie suffered another heart attack and he died into the arms of his Val. It was a hard shock for everyone. The whole family and friends out near and far were shaken. The burial took place under a great sympathy. Beverly Dunn, Claire Bryant from the "Flying Doctors", were kept the very much seizing obituary on Maurie. But Maurie suffered what hardly anyone knew until there also of cancer of the throat which one had diagnosed at a routine examination. After a long treatment one assumed that Maurie had defeated the cancer. And he threw himself again into the work, was back in his profession with passion. He worked with son Marty on the musical "Crazy for you" of Gershwin whom he revised. All three should be here in Melbourne, Val, Maurie and Marty, on the stage together. Unfortunately, but that great day never happened, Maurie died on December 18th, 1995.

Three months after Maurie's death Renate was allowed to meet Val Jellay in     Melbourne, Albert Park, and dedicated the first fan magazine of our club to  Maurie Fields. Of course Val has told very much of Maurie and the still hard time. It was a very friendly conversation between Val and Renate. Val also reported that she works on her second book "Maurie Fields, Keep it funny," and it is in this only about Maurie. Her first book "Stagestruck" is her autobiography. Both books were in Australia on the best seller lists. Renate then had her second meeting with Val Jellay (however also with Terry Gill and Robert Grubb) at the end of 1998. She met at Val's home and Val could show herself all the photos and prices of Maurie. The "TV Week Logie Award" had been awarded to him for his life's work post-humously in 1996. Val also talked about the work with her son in the musical "Crazy for you". This work has been good for her on the one hand, but on the other hand also old wounds broken.

But Val Jellay is still very busy. In the series "Neighbours" Val played in 1999   the role of the Connie O'Rourke with old starling Bud Tingwell. It appeared in    the TV show "This is your life" on August 17th, 2000. It was talked about her life, colleagues from the `old days´ which she had not seen for 55 years anymore were present. Surprise guests from recent time were Liz Burch and Andrew McFarlane. 2004 became Val grandmother of granddaughter Hayley Kate who could close them finally into their arms on May 23rd. In the year 2005 Val joined in in the series "Blue Heelers" as Marjorie Price.

The contact to our club has going on to exist much to our delight. When always Renate is in Australia, in Melbourne, she has not been in Melbourne without a meeting with Val. At last 2006, a year before Val's 80th birthday. "She is still an admirable splendid Lady and I will go on to be a great fan of her.”

2010 Val was seen in the “The Librarians”-episode `Pearl of wisdom´ and she arranged for 2011 her adventure as Lady Calderwood in “Moonlite”.
