Der Australier Andrew McFarlane hat nicht nur die Herzen der Fans in Australien, sondern auch in Deutschland im Sturm erobert. In seiner Heimat gehört Andrew zu den bekanntesten und beliebtesten Stars.

Andrew McFarlane wurde am 06. Juni 1951 in Albany, Westaustralien, geboren.    Er wuchs auf einer Cattle-Station in Queensland auf und lebt heute in Sydney.  Nach dem Abitur studierte er zunächst in Melbourne Jura, sattelte nach einem Jahr um und studierte Gartenbau. Die Liebe zu den Pflanzen kühlte auch schnell ab und Andrew entdeckte, zum Glück aller seiner Fans, die Schauspielerei. Er schloss sein Studium erfolgreich an dem berühmten National Institute of Dramatic Arts (NIDA) ab. Gleich danach stieg er in die Polizeiserie “Division 4”, produziert von Crawford Productions, ein.  Sein Talent sorgte dafür, dass er für sehr viele Rollen in Serien  und Filmen engagiert wurde. In der Serie “The Sullivans” spielte er John Sullivan. Zu dieser Serie wurde ebenfalls der Film “The John Sullivan Story” gedreht. Es folgten Rollen in den Serien “Patrol Boat”, “1915”, “Cop Shop”, “Certain Woman” und “Rafferty`s Rules”. Auch in vielen Filmen war Andrew zu sehen. So u. a. in “Harness Fever”, “Break of day”, “Doctors and Nurses”, “Barracuda”, “Boulevard of broken dreams”.

Als die Serie “The Flying Doctors” 1985 gedreht wurde, spielte Andrew die Rolle von Dr. Tom Callaghan. Durch sie wurde er auch hier bei uns bekannt und sehr beliebt. Trotzdem stieg er ein Jahr später aus der Serie aus, weil er sich anderen Rollen zuwenden wollte  vor allem dem Theater. 1988 kam er zur Serie zurück.  Er spielte Dr. Tom Callaghan noch bis 1989 und stieg dann endgültig aus der erfolg reichen Serie aus. Nur einmal noch war er in der Folge “Das Tagebuch” als Tom zu sehen.

Nach der Serie “Die fliegenden Ärzte” widmete sich Andrew zunächst ganz dem Theater. Er spielte an vielen großen Bühnen Australiens. Hierzu gehörten “Love Letters” und “Gullivers Travels” sowie “Talley`s Folley” und “Emerald City” mit Lenore Smith, “Talking Steps” mit Sarah Chadwick und “Tales of a faerie called angel”, sowie im Jahr 2000 als Roo in “Summer of the seventeenth doll”. Aber  nicht nur Theater hat Andrew McFarlane gespielt, er war auch weiter in den verschiedensten Fernsehserien und Filmen zu sehen, einige davon wurden auch im deutschen Fernsehen gezeigt. So unter anderem seine Auftritt in “Time Trax”, “Paradise Beach”, “Halifax f.p.”. Ebenfalls konnten wir ihn als Brian Reynolds in der ersten Staffel der Jugendserie “Spellbinder” bewundern. In der Serie “Heart- break High” spielte er in 5 Episoden die Rolle des Jeff Scheppers.  In dem Drama “Day of the roses” war er zu sehen. Zusammen mit Mimi Rodgers spielte er in “Little white lies”. Die Rolle eines drogensüchtigen Wahnsinnigen spielte  er sehr überzeugend in dem Thriller “Warte bis es dunkel wird” (“Wait until dark”) im Sydney`s Marian Street Theatre. In dem 3teiligen TV-Film “Land der Gewalt” spielte er 1998 die Rolle des Tom. Es geht hier um die Erlebnisse einer weißen Familie in Neukaledonien. Andrew spielt in dieser Rolle von jung nach alt. 1999 spielte er die Rolle des Conrad in der Serie “Airtight”.

2001 war er am Marian Street Theatre in “Dinner with Friends” zu sehen. Das  Stück hatte sehr gute Kritiken. 2001 stand Andrew als Mr. Braddock in “The Graduate” wieder auf der Theaterbühne und feierte einen großen Erfolg.

Der Film zu diesem Stück ist hier unter dem Titel "Die Reifeprüfung" bekannt. Obwohl Andrew sich mit einer Grippe herum schlug , ließ er es sich nicht nehmen, Renate  am 24. November 2001 persönlich kennen zulernen. Im Jahr 2002 ist er als Mike Sodergren in dem TV-Film “Heroes` Mountains” dabei. Andrew nahm 2003 die Rolle des Mike in dem romantischen TV-Drama “Tempted” an. Neben erfolg- reichen Theaterstücken blieb er dem TV treu. 2004 war er in der Mini-Serie “Through my eyes” John Phillips Q.C. und in “The Alice” Hugh Delaney. In 2005 nahm er in der Serie “Neighbours” die Rolle des Bobby Hoyland an. Im Oktober 2007 stand er in Brisbane als George in “Wer hat Angst vor Virginia Woolf” auf  der Bühne. Für Channel 10 wurden die Dreharbeiten zu “The Falls” (auch unter  dem Titel “Emerald Falls” bekannt) abgedreht, in der er die Hauptrolle inne hatte. 2008 spielte Andrew im TV-Film “Dream Life” den Part des Daniel. In der Serie “Underbelly” stellte er sich 2009 in der Rolle des Donald Mackay vor und in “Bourke Boy” in der des John. Im selben Jahr stand Andrew im Theaterstück “Amadeus” als Mozart`s Rivale Antonio Saleri auf der Bühne und in “Let the sunshine” zeigte er sich dort als Ron.

2011 war Andrew in dem Theaterstück “The Heretic” zu sehen - einer schwarzen Komödie mit dem Thema Klimawandel im Mittelpunkt. Im April 2012 spielte Andrew den pompösen akademischen Bernard Nightingale in “Arcadia” am Heath Ledger Theatre, Perth. McFarlane´s beeindruckende Vorstellung erinnert an das peinliche Gehabe und stotternde Rede manches sozial phobischen akademischen Lehrers. Für den Kurzfilm “Shadow Valley” stand Andrew als Pastor Todd vor der Kamera.

Beim Sydney Fringe Festival 2013 spielte Andrew in dem Stück “Equus” den Psychiater Martin Dysart.

Neuverfilmung oder Fortsetzung - 2014 spielt Andrew in dem Drama “Spielplatz des Teufels” (`The devil`s playground´) mit. Sein Kollege Simon Burke spielte bereits 1976 die Rolle des Tom Allen - damals ein verletzlicher, schüchtener Junge.  Fast vier Jahrzehnte später kehrt Tom Allen als angesehener Psychiater zurück. Und auch FD-Kollege Max Cullen hat hier eine Nebenrolle. Desweiteren übernahm er eine Rolle in “Rake” und in “Love Child”. Sowohl in “Rake” als auch in “Devil`s Playground” spielte Max Cullen an seiner Seite.

Andrew spielt in “A place to call home” die Rolle des Arztes Dr. Milson - und hier spielt er nicht Mr. Nice Guy. Er schockiert in brutalen Elektroschock-Therapie- Szenen. In Perth steht er auf der Bühne und spielt in “The Seagull” den Dr. Dorn.

2014 stand Andrew mit Patrick Brammall für die Dreharbeiten zu sechs Folgen des übernatürlichen Dramas “Glitch” vor der Kamera. Die beiden standen bereits für die Serie “The Alice” vor der Kamera. 2015 wurde Andrew mit dem ASTRA Award für seine schauspielerische Leistung als Priester in “Devil`s Playground” ausgezeichnet.

The Australian  actor Andrew McFarlane has not only the hearts of the fans in Australia conquers but also in Germany in the storm too. Andrew belongs to the most well known and most popular stars in his home country.

Andrew McFarlane was born in Albany, Western Australia, on June 6th, 1951. He grew up in Queensland on a Cattle station and lives in Sydney today. After the high school graduation at first he studied in Melbourne jurisprudence, changed one´s subject after a year and studied horticulture. The love to the plants cooled down    also fast and Andrew discovered, fortunately all his fans, the acting. He completed  his studies at the famous National Institute of Dramatic Arts (Nida) successfully off. Just after those he got in into the police series "Division 4", produced by Crawford Productions. His talent took care that he was engaged for many roles in series and films. In the series of "The Sullivans" he played John Sullivan. When the series "The Flying Doctors" 1985 was produced, Andrew played the role  of Dr. Tom Callaghan. He became well-known to us also here through it and popular very much. He   still played Dr. Tom Callaghan to 1989 and then got out of the successful series definitely. Only once, he was still seen in the episode "the diary" as Tom again.

Andrew dedicated to himself next the series "The Flying Doctors" whole the theatre. He played at many big stages of Australia in parts like "Love Letters", "Gullivers Travels", as well as "Talley´s Folley" and "Emerald City" with Lenore Smith, "Talking Steps" with Sarah Chadwick, and “Tales of a faerie called angle”, as   well as in the year 2000 as Roo "Summer of the seventeenth doll". But Andrew McFarlane has not acted only theatre, he could also further be seen in all sorts of television series and films, some were shown by it also on German television. So among other things his entrances into "Time Trax", "Paradise Beach", "Halifax f.p.". We also could admire him as Brian Reynolds in the first echelon of the youth series "Spellbinder". In the series "Heartbreak High" he played the role of the Jeff Scheppers in 5 episodes. He could be seen in the drama " Day of the rose ". Together with Mimi Rogers he played in “Little White lies”. He played the role of a addicted to drugs lunatic very convincingly in the thriller "Wait until dark" to   it in the Sydney Marian Street Theatre. In the 3-part TV film "The violent earth" he played Tom's role in 1998. It is all about the experiences for a white family here in New Caledonia. Andrew plays the roles of young one which become after old in  this role. He played Conrad's role in the series "Airtight" in 1999.

He could be seen at the Marian Street Theatre in "Dinners with friends" in 2001. The piece had very good reviews. In 2001 Andrew was as Mr. Braddock in "The Graduate" on the theatre stage again and celebrated a great success. The film for  this piece is known here below to title "Die Reifeprüfung". Although Andrew himself fought with a flu, he did not let take him, to say hello to Renate on  November 24th, 2001 personally. In the year 2002 he played in the TV film  "Heroes' Mountains" Mike Sodergren. Andrew accepted Mike's role too in the romantic TV drama "Tempted" in 2003. Besides successful plays he remained faithful to the TV. He was 2004 in the mini-series "Through my eyes" John Phillips Q.C. and in "The Alice" Hugh Delaney. In 2005 he had the role of Bobby Hoyland  in the series "Neighbours". In October 2007 he stood in Brisbane as George in "Who is afraid of Virginia Woolf " on the stage. For Channel 10 were the shooting to "The Falls" (well-known also under the title "Emerald Falls") are finished in which Andrew had the leading role as Dr Henry Forbes. 2008 played Andrew the part of Daniel in the TV film "Dream Life". In the series "Underbelly" he was seen in 2009 in the role of Donald Mackay and in "Bourke Boy" he was a brilliant John. Andrew was in 2009 on stage in “Amadeus” as the rival of Mozart Antonio Saleri and he was on stage too as Ron in “Let the sunshine”.

2011 Andrew starred in the play "The Heretic" - a black comedy with the  issue of climate change in the center-point. In April 2012 Andrew played the pompous academic Bernard Nightingale in “Arcadia” at the Heath Ledger Theatre, Perth. McFarlane's impressive performance invokes the awkward posturing and spluttering speech of many a sociophobic don. For the short film "Shadow Valley" Andrew was as Pastor Todd on the  camera.

At the Sydney Fringe Festival 2013 Andrew played the psychatrist Martin Dysart in the play “Equus”.

Remake or sequel - 2014 plays Andrew in the drama “The devil`s play- ground”. His colleague Simon Burke already played in 1976 the role of  Tom Allen - at that time a vulnerable, shy boy. Nearly four decades later,   Tom Allen returns as a respected psychiatrist. And FD-mate Max Cullen  has a minor role too. He also took a role in "Rake" and in "Love Child". In "Rake" as well as in "Devil's Playground" Max Cullen played at his side.

Andrew plays in "A place to call home" the role of the physician Dr. Milson - and he's not playing Mr. Nice Guy. He shocked in brutal electroshock therapy scenes. In Perth, he stood on the stage and played in "The Seagull" Dr. Dorn.

2014 Andrew was with Patrick Brammall on the set of the six part supernatural drama "Glitch". The two were already for the series "The Alice" in front of the camera. 2015 Andrew was awarded with the ASTRA Award for his performance  as a priest in "Devil's Playground".
